Good Morning Sunshine

September 28, 2008 by Nanci Fulmek

“Good Morning Sunshine”
Oil on Canvas
2008
28×42

Original Available

Framed $14,000

A follow up from the painting Leslie at 8 months Here is Leslie and her daughter Hazel.  This entire painting was done from life, and we had to change may things as we went along as Hazel was growing.  When we started Hazel was 3 months old, when we finished she was 9 months.  If you have kids, you know a lot can happen in 6 months!  How do you paint a portrait of a baby from life? Easy, one day at a time, and be very creative to find ways to get them to look in the same direction.  If you can call that easy.

I titled this painting, “Good Morning Sunshine” as that is what my mother would say to us when she went to wake us up in the morning for school.  I can still hear her voice sing it.

Dually

11×11
Collection of Robb and Gail Simpson

Dually is a beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog.  People can say that painting a black dog is hard, and people can say that painting a lot of fur is hard, but I had more fun with all those big brushstrokes on this one, it makes me want to paint more dogs!  I am so used to horses, that this was fun!

Unfortunately, soon after painting Dually, he passed away. We are grateful that we had the opportunity to love him in life, and now he will be forever remembered.  We miss you Dually!

Leslie at 8 Months

September 28, 2007 by Nanci Fulmek

“Leslie at 8 Months”
Oil on Canvas
2007
36×48
Collection of Leslie & Tony Stoy

We started this portrait when Leslie just found out she was pregnant.  Being that we painted her from life, we had no idea where her “belly” was going to grow.  As Leslie was sitting in the chair she looked so causal, so we decided to keep this pose.  It is SO HER.  As the baby was growing, it was fun to paint, and re-paint some areas, when we were finished she was 8 months along.

Leslie was painted 100% from life, even with her body changing every time she came in. Which was once or twice a week.

Leslie’s after painting, “Good Morning Sunshine” is under portraits & interiors.

Dan

Collection of Dan Blageo

Dan had just had his braces removed.  His girlfriend is a ortho-assistant too.  So we HAD to show off those very expensive nice looking teeth!  Dan is also a very outgoing, very fun guy, so to have him laughing was SO him.  The only problem,  when you paint a portrait 100% from life, and you have a person doing something they can not hold, it can be challenging.  So we had a very fun plan, he would sit like normal and then when he needed to laugh we would tell jokes and we were both laughing for many hours.  I would say that painting Dan was the most fun I ever had while painting.  Dan also had taken band and played a few instruments, so he was doing cheek relaxing exercises as I painted away on other areas.  What fun!

Drawn 100% from life, this took about 40 hours total to complete.  This was challenging for my very active brother, but we did it.  Just broke it down into 3 hour sessions, and a break every 20-30 min.  feww…

Angus is a beautiful Shire owned by my friend Jonathan.  One day I went out to visit.  I climbed up in the truck to climb up onto his custom made saddle.  Once I got up there, I had the best ride ever. Have you ever cantered on a Shire?  It was like riding a magic carpet. I loved it!

Now back to the painting…  We went out to get Angus out of the pasture, and he was all shaggy, and I took a few photos of him.  Jonathan says “WAIT! I didn’t clean him up yet!” and I answered “I KNOW! I love this look!”

Here is my Knight, Angus.

Collection of Denise F., WI

This is Pandora BB, a beautiful Andalusian, on her first day out of the barn… she ran and played and ran and ran and ran.  Then suddenly, she looks down and starts jumping up in the air while she is looking down at her shadow.  She tries to run away, but it keeps following her.  Have we not all done this as a kid before?
